What makes your skin glow?


I have been asked this question over and over again. In-fact one of my clients refused to believe I never wore make or a foundation. Ever heard of the idiom ‘Beauty is only skin deep.’ Well I subscribe to this idiom. The truth is my skin was never a part of my focus, all my life as far back as I can remember. I come from a good set of Peshawar genes, and have managed to eat healthy from my early 20’s; that’s 20 odd years of the most amazing blood quality and a balanced pH. The result voila! Great skin.


You cannot have any one thing that’s going to pull it off for you. Your diet can be a disaster (sugary foods, white processed flour [maida], dairy, junk) but you can be eating desi ghee, using haldi and all the potions and lotions your dermatologist gives to you-it will not make an iota of difference, if you don’t start addressing what you put into your mouth on a daily basis.


Your skin is the largest breathing organ; it sits outside the body, but is a manifestation of the insides of your body. What you eat makes for good or bad blood condition, and this is directly manifested on your skin. Junk food makes for junk blood; it’s that simple.


So what have I done all these years? For one I have kept away from these junk foods: Dairy and sugar being the number one culprits, and of course throw in the maida. I don’t say turn a vegetarian, but eating a whole lot more of plant based foods will definitely help, and if you cannot do that, then balance your animal food intake with a lot of leafy greens. Stay away from refined and processed foods, this would include eating out a whole lot. I would say 10% of eating out, and the balance 90% of home-cooked food. Make sure to use the right salt (sea or rock salt), use cold pressed oils.
