Using Sage and Why

Here’s why including Sage in your day-to-day life helps you on so many levels –

Made from the leaves of Salvia officinalis the same family as mint. It’s usually used as a spice, but less in Indian cooking called ‘saadhoo’ in Hindi. In Latin sage means ‘to save’ and it’s done that for me. Its flavor is full bodied, and has a lot of character. Its ANTIBACTERIAL, ANTIFUNGAL AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY.

  1. DECREASED INFLAMMATION – As the tea has ‘rosmarinic.
  2. RESTORES BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS.
  3. ENSURE SMOOTH DIGESTION.
  4. BRONCHIAL ISSUES -Recommended to help with asthma.
  5. Helps RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS.
  6. NEUTRALIZES FREE RADICALS and prevents disease.
  7. It’s got ABUNDANT VITAMIN K, essential for bone health, eyes, clotting and circulation.
  8. It’s also used as a NATURAL SKIN CARE REMEDY (as it has: camphor, beta carotene and carnosol).
  9. It will ELEVATE MOOD, due to a compound (thujone) responsible for boosting serotonin and endorphins.
  10. PROVIDES ORAL HEALTH as its antibacterial; when used in a gargle.
  11. ASSISTS LIVER with lipid metabolization.
  12. CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH is maintained (due to calcium and phosphorus content).
  13. GREAT FOR HAIR as it prevents losing hair due to the presence of 5-alpha reductase (what is it?) and aids with dandruff.
  14. BRAIN HEALTH is enhanced due to acetylcholine; will impact memory, focus; and also help with people suffering with Alzheimer’ and dementia.

Recipe for Sage Tea

  1. 1 tablespoon fresh sage
  2. 1 cup of water
  3. Some stevia (to sweeten)
  4. Boil water, add sage, let it simmer for 5-7 minutes and add stevia

How else can sage be used?

  1. It can be made into an infusion in oil and used over salad dressing
  2. It can be made into a tea (as the picture)
  3. It’s used with meats as a seasoning
  4. Sage and onion stuffing is very popular used in many dishes

Happy SAGEING!
